Greven OOO

A new Greven! John's really outdone himself with this one. A vintage 14 fret OOO offering in lutz and mahogany, the entire guitar is trimmed in tortis and a cutaway helps with access. Withers OOO

An affordable guitar! I've had a number of requests for a good guitar which won't break the bank. After some looking around, I found this deep bodied 12 fret OOO from new luthier Tim Whithers. Tim is currently building part-time and produces guitar which are designed to sound best to the audience. Built from adirondack and brazilian rosewood, this guitar has a dreadnought depth and an arched top and back which produces a focused, projective tone. Trimed with purfling and a bound fingerboard, it has all you need to go out and impress the crowd. A nice lighthouse inlay by Craig Lavin adorns the headstock. There are a number of cosmetic issues, mostly purfling misses/bleed. There is some water marking on the sides which is probably the most obvious cosmetic issue. A small finish crack has been repaired by the purfling.

A good tone, great appointments for US$3,000 ( 1,500 sterling approx).

1931 Martin OO18

From 1931, this is the 12fret version of the classic OO18. Adirondack top with mahogany. All original except for newer hardcase, this has the original ebony nut, and ivory saddle with barfrets. It's a recent neckset by Frank Ford and plays like every guitar should. It has some finish checking on the top and a small side crack but is otherwise in great condition. The guitar's mature with an open, dry sound that has developed over the past 76 years. Excellent volume and plays with no resistance one often finds in newer guitars. An exceptionally fine sounding prewar martin. 4,000 sterling

Features:

  • Martin and company
  • 12fret OO
  • 24.5" Scale length
  • Year: 1931
  • Back & Sides: Honduran Mahogany
  • Top: Adirondack spruce
  • Top Trim: Line Purfling
  • Rosette: Line Purfling

  • Neck: 1 piece mahogany

  • Nut: Ebony
  • Nut Width: 1 13/16" , String Spacing: 2 1/4"
  • Tuners: Ivoroid Buttons, 3 on a plat
  • Case: Newer Hardcase
  • Condition: Excellent- some finish crazing and 1 small side crack.
  • Vintage notes: All orginal except replaced bridge pins- yup, the nut, saddle pickguard and all the structural elements such as bridge and bridgeplate are original. This one plays like butter as it had a recent neck reset by Frank Ford and there is little fret wear on the original bar frets.

Norman Blake's L'arrivee SD50

A standard factory guitar at Goodacoustics? What's going on? Put simply, this is such a fine sounding guitar with provenence that I couldn't resist. This is L'arrivee's version of the prewar 12fret D18. It sports a sitka spruce top and honduran mahogany back and sides. These pedestrian specs belie a super charged guitar. Norman Blake bought this guitar for himself in . It was used at various outlets and Norman decided to move it on as his Martin signature model was a little smaller and more comfortable for him. It's light and it's powerful with more of a vintage sound than you would think. This is a very fine sounding guitar suited to Flatpicking and Fingerpicking. These retail at around 2,ooo sterling, street price it has been used carefully and is in excellent condition. In some respects, I prefer this guitar to the new Martin D18 Authentics, it is the equal of the Martins. It's that good. Sold with full documentation and provenence. 2,000 sterling (excellent) HOLD

Ragghianti OM

The OM was designed by Martin to meet Perry Betchel's requirement. It was designed for use in an orchestra, hence the designation. We think that the OM is the most versatile guitar shape; a luthier can push it into a fingerpicking box, a flatpicking machine or an all rounder. This Ragghianti is an all rounder with a great bass response. If you thought that a mahogany dreadnought is great for strumming or flatpicking, this OM may well challenge that! It's good ooodles of headroom and project with a good blend of overtones. We found this guitar to be a good fingerpicker as well. Overall, it is a very enjoyable guitar! Price: £2,100 Email us/phone for more details.

§         This one's been over a year in the works, from working out the specs to the execution. It's a real throughbred guitar- very responsive but with good headroom. 12 fret OOO have been considered the ideal platform for fingerstylists, but we chose to go with an OM scale length to give it a bit more oomph and headroom and it's worked out beautifully. The bass is rich and the trebles are startlingly thick.

The mastergrade European Red Spruce top flexs over Brazilian rosewood to produce a very classic pre-war timbre. The entire guitar is French Polished and the style 45 purfling adds class. If you are looking for a lifetime guitar, let me recommend this one.
